Abstract ◊ The article examines the experience of Shakespeare's legacy studies by V. A. Zhukovsky. At first sight in comparison with Karamzin's and his younger coevals' (Küchelbecker, Pushkin et al.) creative works Shakespeare had somehow weak influence on the original works by Zhukovsky. Meanwhile, his poetic experience prepared the Russian poetry for the work on translations of Shakespeare and had impact on the process of Shakespearisation and formation of Shakespearianism of the Russian literature at the turn of the XVIII–XIX centuries.
Keywords: Shakespeare, Zhukovsky, Shakespearisation, Shakespearianism, the cult of Shakespeare.
