Abstract ♦ The article presents the intermediate outcomes of a phase of a larger study devoted to the impact of historical falsifications and myths on the consciousness, socio-cultural identity and behavior of contemporary Russian youth. Falsification of history leads to a distortion of historical consciousness and the destruction of the identity of the Russian nation. This problem can be seen as a threat to national security.
Empirically, our study was based on a questionnaire survey of the opinions of Moscow students in accordance with the selected set. The sample set included 1000 respondents from Moscow University for the Humanities, the National Institute of Business, M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, and G. V. Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
The survey results showed that the historical consciousness of contemporary youth and their attitude to Russia’s past is formed in a stochastic and non-systemic manner.
Keywords: youth, history, historical falsifications, historical myths, social behavior.
