Abstract ♦ The article dwells on the history of the Shakespeare Committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences as it was created and conducted in the 1970–1980s by Alexander A. Anikst, and its revival in the new millennium as a structure uniting the research, educational and cultural forces in studying Shakespeare and spreading the knowledge of his genius and works all over the country.
It also presents the manifold activities in organizing Shakespeare conferences every second year and publishing their proceedings in the issues of “The Shakespeare Readings”. The issues contain research papers and articles as well as the chronicle of Shakespeare conferences and congresses that take place in Russia and abroad.
A special point is to show the Shakespeare scholarship in Russia and across the globe. The author clarifies the leading scholars’ contribution to Russian Shakespearean studies and describes contacts with foreign Shakespeare associations and distinct researchers.
