Trykov V. P. The Russians in E. M. de Vogüé’s Short Story “The Fur Overcoat of Joseph Olenin”
(Moscow Pedagogical State University)
Abstract ◊ The article analyzes a short story, which have never been translated into Russian, by French writer and diplomat E. M. de Vogüé. The author reveals the writer’s relations with the traditions of Russian literature and shows how the construction of the image of the Russians in the story is determined, on the one hand, by the literary models and by the writer’s “neo-Christianity” and “neo-Mysticism”, on the other. E. M. de Vogüé was one of the outstanding representatives of the Catholic renaissance in France.
Keywords: Russian national character, the Russian soul, the Catholic renaissance, motif of doubleness.
