Ilinskiy I. M. The Victory is Priceless

Abstract ◊ On January 18, 2013, Russia celebrated the 70th anniversary of the breaking of the Siege of Leningrad, which began on September 8, 1941, and lasted for 872 days. On January 18, 1943 the circle of the blockade was broken near Schlisselburg and the supply of the city was re-established through a narrow corridor by land. The rations of provisions were increased as much as the level of the big industrial centers situated in the rear. But the city remained under the siege until January 27, 1944…

The rector of Moscow University for the Humanities, I.M. Ilinskiy was born in Leningrad and was living there from the beginning of the siege till July 23, 1942, when his family was evacuated to Novosibirsk Oblast. We present our discussion with I.M. Ilinskiy, member of the Military Academy, on the myths regarding the Leningrad blockade, the battle for the city and the “price” of the Victory.
